Microsoft put a login wall in front of Copilot, and left Bing's answers open
Microsoft is requiring all users to sign in before using Copilot at copilot.microsoft.com and via the Copilot button on the Bing homepage. Two named Microsoft people are quoted. Krishna Madhavan, Principal Product Manager at Microsoft AI and Bing, verbatim: "Going forward we are requiring all Copilot users to login." Michael Schechter, Corporate Vice President for Search Growth and Experiences, verbatim: "Copilot Search doesn't require sign in." So the assistant is gated and the answers that appear inside Bing search results are not. Windows Report has been documenting the sign-in wall spreading across Edge, Bing and the mobile apps since 18 August, so this has been arriving in stages rather than landing today.
